Kenyan clean cookstove company BURN has secured over $12 million to distribute their eco-friendly cooking technology across Africa. This follow-on investment, led by Key Carbon, will see BURN deliver electric cookstoves to households in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia, while biomass stoves will be distributed in Nigeria, DRC, Tanzania, and Mozambique over the next two years.

BURN secures $12 million to expand cooking solutions.
The urgency for clean cooking solutions in Sub-Saharan Africa is stark. Roughly 950 million people in the region rely on traditional methods like firewood and charcoal, leading to a multitude of health, environmental, and economic problems.
"BURN's innovative electric and biomass cookstoves have already improved the lives of over 24 million people since 2014," said founder and CEO Peter Scott. "This funding will allow us to reach an additional 1.5 million, preventing over 12 million tons of carbon emissions in the next seven years."

Zeepay secures $3 million funding.
This isn't BURN's first collaboration with Key Carbon. Last year, they received $25 million to subsidize cookstoves for low-income households. Their ultimate goal? To raise $1 billion and bring clean cooking to every household on the continent.
The investment highlights the growing role of carbon financing. By creating tradable carbon credits from the emissions reductions achieved by their cookstoves, BURN can make them more affordable.
"Key Carbon is attracting investors by creating attractive carbon projects," said Luke Leslie, their CEO. "This market has immense potential to fight climate change and help vulnerable communities, but it needs more participation from global investors."
This deal with BURN positions Key Carbon as a trusted partner for financing impactful decarbonization projects that generate valuable carbon credits. By scaling up clean cooking solutions, BURN is not just reducing emissions but also improving lives across Africa.
