Building a Greener Africa: Village Capital Announces Investment-Ready Program for Green Tech Startups

African Green Tech Startups Get a Boost: Village Capital Launches Accelerator Program

Village Capital, in partnership with Moody's Foundation, launched an initiative called Greentech 2024: The Future of Sustainability. This program aims to empower African startups tackling climate change and its effects.

Global Effort for Local Impact

Greentech 2024 is part of a wider global movement encompassing Latin America and Asia. It seeks to support and scale ventures that address environmental challenges. These challenges include minimizing waste and pollution, preserving natural resources, and improving access to clean water and sanitation.

The African arm of the program prioritizes startups from Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa.

A Crucial Time for Action

A recent UN report paints a concerning picture. Only two out of 36 sustainable development goals set for 2030 are on track. Climate change and biodiversity loss are worsening due to slow implementation of solutions. This highlights the need for a collective effort from businesses, individuals, and scientific bodies to drive transformative change.

Seeking Innovative Solutions

The program is seeking applications from African startups with solutions that accelerate sustainable development. Focus areas include clean technology, climate technology, agricultural technology, food security, and circular or regenerative economic models. Additionally, ventures working in natural resource management, water, sanitation, and health are encouraged to apply.

Empowering Entrepreneurs

Selected startups will participate in online workshops from August to September 2024. The curriculum equips them with the tools and networks to expand their impact and empower their communities. Mentorship from industry experts, investors, and an investment analyst will provide guidance on building financial models, identifying key metrics, and using financial data to attract investment.

Expanding Opportunities

All program applicants gain access to Abaca, Village Capital's online global network. This platform helps entrepreneurs showcase their investment readiness and connects them with relevant resources and investors. Applications for Greentech 2024 close on May 10, 2024.
